Queer, Disabled and Proud: Why Intersectionality Matters

At 2BU, we understand that queerness doesn't always exist in isolation. It can coincide with other marginalised communities like race, faith or disability. Disability and being a 2BU team member really opens the door to meaningful conversations about diversity wider than just LGBTQ+ issues. When a young person walks through the door, they can instantly know that all aspects of themselves are welcomed. When we talk about 'safe spaces', we don't just mean people who are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, but rather all individuals, regardless of who they are or what community they are a part of.

Every session reminds us that when we embrace intersectionality, we give young people the freedom to belong, connect, and thrive. Together, we’re building a community where no one has to leave parts of themselves at the door.
